uncaring – without care or thought for others.
hypocrite – a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
The moment is still in some minds. The tension was so thick, the butter knife had to be passed over for the rugged steak knife with a serrated edge. The look of fear and disbelief on Mike Myers face was incorrigible.
The words so freely flowed from the lyrical lips of rap star Kanye West “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
West, like many other pop culture figures, reaches many people because of his celebrity status. Masses of young and old listen to the words of icons like West and take them to heart as the scripture of their lives.
N-now, th-th-throw ya motherf***in hands
GET EM HIGH
All the girls pass the weed to ya motherf***in man
GET EM HIGH
Now I ain’t never tell you to put down ya hands
KEEP EM HIGH
And if ya losin yo high than smoke again
KEEP EM HIGHlyrics from “Get Em High” by Kanye West from the Album College Dropout
This is a great message to pass on to the people you care about. A quick question Kanye, I see that we are supposed to get em high and keep em high, is that with the drugs that ‘W’ and the Republicans have been putting into poor neighborhoods for the last twenty or thirty years? Get em high and keep em high indeed, yeah you care about people.
Kanye West is not only a hypocrite when it comes to the things he says, he is a hypocrite when it comes to the things he does. This week he plans to dine on a takeout order of food, that in public Al Gore would denounce because of “global warming” but in Kanye’s house Gore would ask him to pass the salt.
“A WELSH curry house is preparing an unusually long distance order for a customer next week.
The takeout order was estimated to cost about $4000 including time that the restaurant manager will be away and business the restaurant may lose. The actual meal would cost around $17.50 in the restaurant. This is a clear message to all the people who cannot afford food on their own, that Kanye West will speak up for you and say the things you want to hear, but he doesn’t mind spending $3982.50 extra on a meal while you and your children starve.
I know I am picking on Kanye here, but this kind of hypocrisy is rampant among pop culture icons. It is very unfortunate when people base their political opinions on people who will get you high and keep you high and then stand up for you on television then let you starve while they spend $4000 for $17.50 meal. Last fall West opened up for U2 on a leg of their 2006 concerts. With African activist Bono at the helm, did West fit the bill? With West setting great examples, Bono must be thrilled that with the meal West ordered. It’s ok Bono, Kanye says “Get Em High, Keep Em High”, maybe they won’t miss food as much if they are all high.
I will be waiting to hear Bono, Gore, and other “caring” popular culture icons to denounce West’s extravagance. I certainly won’t be holding my breath (even if it helps stop global warming).

On what basis do you try to drum West out of the conservative, Republican, business-at-any-cost ranks?
Judging by West’s actions and causes, do you think he is a conservative, Republican, business at any cost kinda guy? Really? If you do you may be the one and only!
Absolutely. That’s why I asked. I obviously caught you off guard — but which of his actions are not out of the Republican businessman’s playbook? Anything?
By equating West’s actions to those of a Republican businessman, your agenda is clear. You want to make sure that we all know that Republican’s in general live extravagantly, waste lots of money and don’t think about the people who have nothing. I got it, it’s an age old complaint from the left, which is more hypocritical than is usually implied. I do believe that West is a capitalist and is using his talents as a rap star to be a rap star. I also believe West is a liberal, taking up liberal stands on social issues. The point you are trying to but failing to make is that capitalists can only be Republican. A capitalist by definition is one who has wealth made on success from a business.
For the most part, if you were to focus strictly on political donations you would find that across the board, the money is given to Democrats, Republicans and Independents fairly even. There are a few exceptions, of course, Steve Jobs, David Geffen, Steven Speilberg, Warren Buffett and, Oprah Winfrey all send the majority of their donations to the left. Jim Walton, Wayne Huizenga, Michael Dell and, Charles Schwab send their donations to the right.
I would say telling folks to “get ‘em high and keep ‘em high” is not out of a Republican businessman’s playbook. I also don’t think a Republican businessman would agree to participate in Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts and then hypocritically have dinner delivered from London to New York.
